Shaping the Conditions for Responsible AI Evaluation
While AI technology evolves at a rapid pace, its integration into society follows the established patterns of innovation: a slower, more complex process shaped by organizational, institutional, and economic factors. This creates a critical governance gap. We need robust mechanisms to ensure new AI systems are not just technically proficient but also socially "fit for purpose."
This research treats AI evaluation as a crucial socio-technical instrument for shaping responsible innovation. We will investigate how to build the necessary capabilities for meaningful AI assessment, moving beyond isolated benchmarks to understand and guide the real-world impact of these systems.
This position is embedded within the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Society (CAISA), a consortium of Denmark's leading AI researchers exploring responsible AI governance. You will contribute to a national initiative while fostering collaboration across academia, government, and industry.
The role will be hosted at the newly established Aalborg University Business School (AAUBS). Part of Aalborg University, an institution renowned for its Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach, AAUBS focuses on bridging the gap between technological innovation and societal impact. You will join an environment committed to strong methodological research with the potential to influence both academic discourse and real-world practice.
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to investigate the innovation processes behind AI evaluation. The position offers significant freedom to shape the research direction based on the candidate's specific interests and methodological strengths. Potential focus areas include:
We welcome candidates from two complementary backgrounds:
The ideal candidate demonstrates either deep technical expertise in machine learning with motivation to engage with innovation theory, or robust quantitative innovation research experience with genuine interest in AI systems.
The official call for applications is not yet open. This is an invitation for an informal, non-binding discussion to explore a potential fit. We are gathering interest from candidates who might be suitable for when the position is formally announced.
The formal job announcement is anticipated to be posted on Aalborg University's official vacancies portal (vacancies.aau.dk) in September / October 2025.
If this research direction excites you, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please reach out to start a conversation about your background and research ideas.
